The approach that ties my thoughts together is a desire to create work that taps into local history, landscape, culture and microclimate. Once these fields of investigation have been explored, along with in-depth client briefing, I begin to develop my ideas. I believe projects of all scales, types and location can be successfully approached in this way delivering architecture of the highest quality, buildings that are personal and spaces that are both functional and inspiring.

Murray achieves a rare balance between, on one hand, maintaining a singular focus and uncompromising commitment to fully exploring an idea, and on the other, approaching the client relationship without the ego or dogma that often comes served with deep thinkers. As a client your ideas are captured and fully scrutinised. There is no creative hierarchy – an idea is an idea deserving of consideration. It’s a satisfying process. What you get is an indivisible and personal creative attention on the possibilities for the project but also on your ideas, responses and concerns as a client.
Duncan, Lantern House
Our brief was to turn a small, dark bachelor pad of a terrace house into a spacious, beautiful and functional family home, full of light. It was also important to connect the courtyard garden to the new internal structure, maximizing the living space.

As we’re design minded ourselves and had researched lots of projects, we had an idea what the solution might be. But in our next meeting Murray surprised us with a curveball of a design we didn’t expect, something we had never seen before.

The following meetings with Murray were fun, constructive and personal. We always came away feeling enlightened and excited about each stage of the project.

Working with Murray has been fun, inspiring and enlightening. The awards for his house number 7 speak for themselves (we were lucky enough to contact Murray before he won them), but we couldn’t recommend Murray and Denizen Works highly enough.

It’s been a pleasure and it’s a pleasure to live in a house [designed by Murray's studio].
