I’ve previously been Design For Me's #DesignerOfTheWeek, and more recently I won the Young Architect of the Year Award 2020, and you can read more about my approach to your project below.
I specialise in new-build houses and extensions that make the most of space, time and money, in order to create generous homes that are a pleasure to inhabit. My approach explores re-using architectural styles from the local area in a contemporary manner, and exploring materials that are unusual and individual, yet perfectly suited for each project. These approaches help me to look at each house in its own bespoke way, and celebrate the narrative, colour, and personality of your home.
By carrying out careful studies of the area, and then producing design options and iterations, our practice comes up with new ways to solve problems. Through careful consultation and updates, we ensure that the designs are perfectly suited to the way you want to live. [Hugh’s practice] have been brilliant. We had a very specific, slightly avant-garde brief that they worked with to come up with some stunning ideas for our build.
The attention to detail in every drawing is sublime and the presentation of design concepts make it very easy to picture in the mind’s eye how the end product will feel.
The planning application they put together was outstanding. It was very comprehensive and given the ‘different’ aesthetic of the proposed building, answered all the questions the planners were likely to ask before they got a chance to ask them.

Update following project completion: Hugh and his team were really amazing to work with. They really understood what we were trying to do (even when we didn’t!), and came to each meeting with a tonne of creative and innovative ideas for the structure, materials, and the overall feel of the project. They were extremely responsive throughout, offering clear and sensible advice for each step of the process.
My wife and I were totally newbies to the whole enterprise of designing and building something like this, but Hugh remained entirely unflappable, patient, and good-humoured. He and his team were an utter joy to work with, and the end results are just fantastic. Couldn’t be happier.
There is a very good reason Hugh was shortlisted in 2019 as one of RIBAJ Rising Star. His understanding and enthousiasme for my project gave me hope that my dream could become a reality even on a very tight budget. He shared with me a wealth of information which will enable me to take the first step towards realizing my dream. I look forward to the finish product, hopefully in a very near future.

We were very impressed by our consultation with Hugh. He showed great attention to detail – wanting to see everything – and seemed to really understand the essence of the building. It seemed obvious that Hugh would do a great job for us and we are very pleased with our choice.
