We enjoy working closely with clients to design homes and living spaces that look and function beautifully. Starting with detailed discussions about our client's ambitions for the project, we explore the potential ways that the site or building could be changed, from the large to the small scale. This dialogue continues throughout the project.

We think that a room or building should form the best possible backdrop to the life that is lived within it. In order to do this, the spatial and material qualities that characterise it must be attuned to the site and the daily rituals of its users. The materials chosen and their detailing help to develop the appropriate atmosphere. The work is focused on creating a sense of coherence between new and existing elements of each project rather than on a particular style or aesthetic.

Matt is a qualified Architect and a Certified Passive House Designer. We are particularly keen to work with Clients who want to build to Passivhaus or EnerPHit standard and encourage clients to consider these options when starting a project.

Rear and side extension

★★★★★

Of all the architects we contacted (and there were a lot!), Matt was by far the clearest in all his communications, both over the phone and via email. This was very reassuring for a number of reasons – first, we would know exactly what we were paying for, second, we felt we would have a good working relationship, and third we took it to indicate that Matt would show the same level of conscientiousness and attention to detail throughout the rest of the project. Although we decided to go with a different company in the end, this was a very hard choice to make and we’re confident that Matt would have done an excellent job for us.

Matt helped broaden our ideas about what we wanted to do with the rear of the house and garden. He guided us through the process and choices so we now have a brighter kitchen, with a working area facing a new courtyard garden, something we had not considered before we started working with him. The work has transformed this part of the house and the way that we use it, we spend nearly all of our time in these rooms now.

WDP have been great to work with. They carried out a retrofit assessment of my property as well as designing some changes to the internal layout of the house that have made it work much better. The retrofit assessment helped me decide how to go about upgrading my home, considering what work to do now and what can be done in the future. I would definitely recommend Wickham Design Practice. Thank you for all your help!
