Hi, I am an Australian-registered architect living and working in Britain, with extensive experience in residential design whether new-build or alterations. My priorities as a designer are:

1. Helping the client identify their most important needs and desires (which are not always obvious). 2. Finding simple and pragmatic solutions (especially when dealing with an awkward existing layout or difficult site). 3. Enhancing the relationship between house and environment (even when there is no garden, space can still be found for nature). 4. Making sustainability a priority (right down to net-zero-carbon if we can).

A lot of my work is country-based but I also enjoy city life, especially the challenge of making a town house feel like it’s in the country by managing views, privacy and the indoor/outdoor link. I am passionate about sustainable development, which means paying attention to how buildings affect our health and wellbeing alongside energy efficiency and renewables. I would love to work with you to create the “home of your dreams” which is fit for the 21st century. Sometimes clients already know what they want and just need some advice, so equally happy to lend a hand with planning or building applications. And in this digital age distance is no obstacle, I have worked on many projects remotely.

Ran Boydell is a thoughtful and practical professional who we were delighted to work with during our restoration of Rosemount in the Hunter Valley of NSW, Australia. He has an excellent eye and worked collaboratively with us rather than enforcing his ideas and opinions on us. I have no hesitation in recommending Ran Boydell.
