We bought 'The Boathouse' because of its situation - close to the town centre but with unobstructed, panoramic views over the river to open countryside. The downside was the problematic internal layout and undersized capacity for our needs. We were determined to make the project work: however demolition and rebuild were precluded by cost, whilst extension of the existing structure was impractical due to the constraints of the difficult, compact site - we needed some innovative architectural input. Cormac was brilliant, quickly understanding our vision, and solving our concerns through imaginative design, yet staying within budget. By transposing the upper and lower floors they vastly improved the functionality of the house, doubling the size of the outside entertainment area, whilst somehow conjuring up an extra bedroom, two extra bathrooms, and a wonderful open plan living space - all within the existing site and building shell.
