Move over PVC bi-fold doors, it’s all about stylish, black steel framed doors and windows! The traditional variety are generally known to be thermally inefficient and expensive. However, there are many new companies on the market, whose products can be much more thermally efficient and cost effective, and we’ve listed some below to get you started.
How much do steel doors and windows cost?
As size and performance requirements affect the cost so greatly, it’s worthwhile getting quotes from different companies.
However, as a benchmark, the lowest quote we got for external french doors with two fixed panels either side was for £6370 + VAT, which came from Urban Steel Designs for dimensions 3200 (w) x 2400 (h). £7080 + VAT was the next lowest.

This company offers some really beautiful products using the traditional industrial-style steel profiles. Black steel-framed doors and windows are usually chosen by clients for their striking design aesthetic and, with this in mind, it’s worth spending time looking at the different window patterns, profiles and ironmongery. We’d highly recommend having chat with these guys – they really know their stuff and can help with the design and planning process (alongside your architect if you have one).
Urban Steel Designs also have very quick lead times of 8-10 weeks, and are able to return an estimate for your project within 24 hours. Their Design process to site survey can take as little as 48 hours.
Here are some of their past projects for inspiration:
