The client posted his project to Design for Me, looking for a talented interior designer to furnish a luxury apartment in Battersea. Lisa on the brief
The budget was 40-60K and the commission consisted of surveying, planning, FF&E, project management and final styling – the full turnkey experience.
This property is based in Battersea, London, in a brand new block of luxury apartments opposite the American Embassy. The client presented us with the details of the empty white shell he’d purchased off-plan, asked us to visit the show home he had viewed and simply asked for ‘something like it with a New York hotel look’.
Lisa on the design
The client not favouring colour or pattern was possibly a good thing as we were able to blur the boundaries of this mostly open-plan space. This was achieved by having one type of engineered wood flooring throughout and a subtle variety of textured wallpapers from Arte and Abbot & Boyd. The wallpapering of the space brought both interest and depth to what could have been a flat, neutral scheme and gave the spaces a more luxurious appearance.
The client had also asked for a high-end dining space, including a chandelier, in the corner near the kitchen. The space was not huge but we sourced a high-end transparent, dining table and chairs which fitted perfectly. The chandelier was even trickier as there were only recessed light fittings (as with most new builds) and most chandeliers would have been too ornate or classical in style for this modern apartment. So we employed an electrician to cut open the newly finished ceiling to install a stunning, minimal, Swarovski ‘Ring’ chandelier. The effect of the textured walls, dining set and lighting is stunning and befits the space.
For the bedroom we purchased an enormous, floor standing, Kartell mirror to make the room feel larger. We also installed the most luxurious Super King sized bed which took up most of the room, making it feel cosy and the perfect place to watch the equally large wall mounted television.
For the living area we decided on the largest off-white sofa possible with the vast wall of glass, cloaked by bespoke, taupe sheers and velvet curtains which can also be seen in similar colours in the luxury bedroom. The curtains were expertly installed in the secret, structural pelmets into which hidden lighting was also installed.
Storage was mostly in the wall-to-wall hallway cupboards and generous built-in wardrobe space.
A happy client…
The client was thrilled with the space and we’ve been able to do more work for him too. The project and our practice were a great match which can be attributed to the Design For Me format.
